About the event
Sleap Airfield will host a British Aerobatics contest from Friday to Sunday, 12 to 14 June. Pilots will compete in three difficulty classes: Club, Sports, and Intermediate.
Each pilot's first flight is called the Known sequence. This is a set of aerobatic figures that must be flown accurately and in the correct order within the aerobatic box, with a minimum base height of 1,000 feet above ground level. During the contest, pilots fly in front of a panel of judges who score how precisely each figure is performed.
After completing the Known sequence, pilots fly one or more Unknown sequences. These sequences are new to the pilots. You might see pilots walking through their sequence on the ground, mentally rehearsing each part. They visualize how they will fly the plane, what they will see from the cockpit, and where each figure should be positioned within the aerobatic box.
